any Freeware / Shareware maping software?

Forum for external software that can be useful together with iLap logging functionality. Typically compatible analyzers and vision software.

any Freeware / Shareware maping software?

Postby RichHawk » Mon Apr 13, 2009 9:43 pm

I'm looking for a simple cheap software that lets me analyze the iLap Logging files.
I realize I may have to convert the format. But primarily looking for an easy graphic of the track course that I can pick a point and see what speed I was going at that point. multiple laps a must.

Thoughts?
thanks

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=google
will take in a NMEA file and plot it onto Google maps. Visually the right idea. But without separate laps and speeds it's pretty useless.

Sad to say I haven't been able to find any free or even commercial software for analyzing laps from GPS data. You might wan't to check out this site for a possible solution: http://sites.google.com/site/gps2vbox/

Convert the .NMEA file into the (google) .KML format and import it into GoogleEarth. It plots the points on a map, you can click on those points and it gives you the speed and time.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of others, I was able to get both Google Earth and TrackVision to show me my data.
But I got one continuous log file of data. I was expecting the data to be split into individual laps, or at very least to write different files each time I opened and closed iLap.
I literally got one log file that appended data across multiple days, multiple sessions of iLap being opened, of complete shutdown of the phone, and even the uninstall of the Demo version / install of the real version.

Could I have been doing something wrong?

Lastly I wish for a "start logging" and a "stop Logging" button, so that I did not have 20 minutes of data logged from sitting in the pits in between sessions.

^^Well there is an enable logging option.

One small thing that would be great, Developers if you're reading this. iLap should check the directory where you store your logs and if the filename exists it should add an increment counter to the log name.

RickHawk, there is a setting screen for the track log specifically.

A tip to avoid logging in the pit while standing still is to set the speed threshold to something like 5 km/h.

If you want to log to another file, just change the track log file in the settings screen, you can name it anything you like (within OS naming conventions), and iLap will start a new log in that file, or continue on an old if it already exists.

I found very good and FREE analyzing software.
http://www.performancebox.co.uk/dlsoftware.html
CIRCUIT TOOLS
or
PERFORMANCE TOOLS
There are about the same.

-split many laps to individual
-speed profile fo each lap versus distance or time
-g-g plot

You need to convert .nmea to .vdo.
