HTC Touch Pro Compatability

Postby susuki » Tue Jan 13, 2009 10:27 am

Hi there

Trying to use iLap on a HTC Touch Pro

I followed the settings in the external GPS (Programe: Com3, Hardware: GPS hardware port = None and Baud rate = 4800, Access: tick Manage GPS automatically)

In iLap settings-
Com Port: Com3
Baud Rate: 4800
Parity: None
Databits: 8
Stopbits: 1

However, the satellite icon remains red.... Appreciate any advice to work it out. Thks in advance

If it works the same as the Diamond Touch phone you might have to use A COM port splitter. See the Technical FAQ post for a link to a port splitter. Also try setting 'Hardware Port' to COM7, or keep the one that was set before if any.

User reports that iLap works on HTC Diamond Touch by using the COM9 port, which apparently is the internal GPS hardware port. The virtual GPS port is COM4, which also might work, but COM9 is reported to work for sure.

These settings work without a port splitter, and might work on the HTC Touch pro also (unconfirmed).

I have not yet been able to get iLap to work on an HTC Touch Pro.
My settings in windows are:
GPS program port - 4
gps hardware port - none
buad rate - 4800
access - manage gps auto ON

I tried settings in iLap:
Com Port: Com4
Baud Rate: 4800
Parity: None
Databits: 8
Stopbits: 1

then

Com Port: Com4
Baud Rate: 9600
Parity: None
Databits: 8
Stopbits: 1

I tried Com9 with 4800 and 9600 baud.

When I set iLap to com9, exit the settings window and go back in, it shows the com port as 5.
It does this repeatedly.

Then I tried the port splitter solution.

When I use Port Splitter software I have choices of
serial btur com7
virtual com9
ril on com6

I tried using com9, but again, iLap seems to set the com port back to 5 (even though 9 is choosable).

Then I tried this all over again with manage gps auto turned off and again with a different gps program port (windows settings).

Both Google Maps and Nav N Go igo8 are able to use GPS with the windows settings shown at the top of this post.

Any other suggestions?

I notice that each time I go into the GPS settings, its got com5 selected no matter what I set it to before.
Is there a config file I can change this in directly?

This probably is a known bug.
"Unable to chose new COM port after selecting a port that does not close correctly."
This might happen on some devices when selecting a COM port that isn't the GPS but still opens fine so the COM port settings are stored to the registry. The bug is that iLap will be stuck forever to the erroneous port.

Try this workaround:
You will need a registry editor for windows mobile to change the settings.

Edit the HKLM\Software\Contab\iLap\SerialPortConfig\PortName key to a name of the port that you now the GPS is at, or remove the key and restart iLap. iLap will default to using COM1 on first start, so you can also set the External GPS setting on your device to COM1 and iLap should pick up the GPS on startup.

Please report if you get any success.

I tried deleting the key
HKLM\Software\Contab\iLap\SerialPortConfig\PortName
and iLap would fail on start for "unknown reason"

The I set it to COM4 and it began to function normally.

COM9 did not work

I tried Port Splitter redirecting COM9 to COM1.

COM1 then showed up in iLap and I was able to select it.

The GPS indicator then turned green, it detected 2 satellites and had an accuracy of 666.6m.

Then the unit seemed to freeze. Google Map detects 9 stellites - iLap seems to stop at two.

With two satellites, the lap editing screen has only the check mark button active, so I'm not able to create a track.

That's where I am now.
